Basic Knowledge of Social Security Board, SSB Myanmar

What is SSB?

The Social Security Board (SSB) in Myanmar provides social security programs for government employees, like civil servants and military personnel, and some workers in private sectors such as commerce, railways, ports, mines, and oilfields. Employees who registered and applied SSB cover their medical care, maternity and work injury in term of medical benefits and financial benefits.

Benefits for SSB Members

  • Provision of medical assistance in the event of illness.
  • Disbursement of financial aid during periods of income loss.
  • Authorization for hospital treatment in cases of work-related illness.
  • Offering maternity assistance.
  • Granting survivor benefits in the event of a work-related accident resulting in death.

Furthermore, additional benefits are available for paternity, miscarriage, disability, and retirement, depending upon one’s contribution.

Procedures for SSB Registration

A government department or a private sector operating a business with five or more employees that fall under the Social Security Law must be validly registered with the Social Security Board within (30) days after starting to operate.

A valid registration is required for all workers who have been working since the registration of the business. It is mandatory to register within (10) days after every new employee is hired.

SSB Contribution

Contribution (60 years of age or younger at the time of registration)

(Health and Social Care Insurance) + (Work Injury Benefit Insurance)
(Employer 2% + Employee 2%) + (Employer 1%) = Total 5%


Contribution (older than 60 years of age at the time of registration)

(Health and Social Care Insurance) + (Work Injury Benefit Insurance)
(Employer 2.5% + Employee 2.5%) + (Employer 1%) = Total 6%


9,000 Ks from employer and 6,000 Ks from employee, 15,000 Ks in total, must be paid not later than 15th of every month. The contribution amount of individual employee and other info must be filled up in Form 13 for the submission to the board. Form 13 needs to be filled up monthly by employer or HR manually or with the use of software like Better HR. A penalty of 10% will be fined on contribution received after the due date.
